چکیده

Abstract Introduction The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) is commonly used to assess excessive daytime sleepiness, but its accuracy limited. In this study, we aim compare the ESS with Observation-based Diurnal Inventory (ODSI), a subjective measure of sleepiness that has been validated using in older adults, objective measures obtained through Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT). Despite being ESS, ODSI not yet tested sleepiness. By comparing (ODSI and ESS) (PVT), expand usage other populations. Methods 91 persons newly diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea treated on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) were administered ODSI, PVT tests, results analyzed for correlations linear regression. average age was 50.48 ± 12.74, mean body mass index (BMI) 35.9 9.3, hypopnea 30.9 23.7, 53.5% male. scores run against lapses transformed reaction time, which are two primary outcomes PVT. Results significantly different between sleepy non-sleepy individuals as defined by both categorization. Both correlated time. second question also well Conclusion suitable appropriate middle-aged adults apnea. Support (if any) R00NR014675-05 (PI: Pak)

Observation and Interview-based Diurnal Sleepiness Inventory for measurement of sleepiness in older adults

INTRODUCTION There is no established reference standard for subjective measures of sleepiness in older adults. METHODS This study compares the Observation and Interview-based Diurnal Sleepiness Inventory (ODSI) with two existing instruments for measurement of sleepiness and daily functioning, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire (FOSQ). RESULTS A...

Psychomotor vigilance testing of professional drivers in the occupational health clinic: a potential objective screen for daytime sleepiness.

OBJECTIVE Psychomotor vigilance testing (PVT) rapidly assesses attention, reaction time (RT), and abnormal vigilance. Thus, PVT may be an adjunct to screening drivers for high-risk obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)/excess daytime sleepiness (EDS). METHODS Commercial drivers and emergency responders undergoing occupational examinations took a 10-minute PVT and were instructed to achieve their fast...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea With Objective Daytime Sleepiness Is Associated With Hypertension.

Subjective daytime sleepiness is considered a significant risk factor of hypertension in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). In this study, our goal was to examine the joint effect on hypertension of OSA and objective daytime sleepiness measured by the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT). A total of 1338 Chinese patients with OSA and 484 primary snorers were included in the study. All s...

Performance vigilance task and sleepiness in patients with sleep-disordered breathing.

Altered vigilance performance has been documented in patients with sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBDs). Sleep fragmentation, sleepiness, respiratory disturbances and nocturnal hypoxaemia have been suggested as the pathogenesis of these deficits, yet it remains difficult to find a good correlation between performance deficits and the above factors. In the present study, which performance m...

Multiple sclerosis fatigue is associated with reduced psychomotor vigilance.

BACKGROUND Fatigue is common and disabling in multiple sclerosis, yet its physiologic substrates remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between fatigue and an objective measure of alertness in MS patients. METHODS This study enrolled 49 consecutive MS clinic patients at two academic hospitals in Toronto. Alertness was assessed with the psychomotor vigil...
